Description:Scott (Alan Curtis) has a fight with his wife and heads to a bar. He meets a mysterious woman and takes her to a show, never learning her name. When he gets home, the police are waiting—his wife has been murdered. Unable to identify the mysterious woman or to find witnesses who saw them together, Scott is found guilty of murder. His secretary, Carol (Ella Raines), who is in love with Scott, is determined to find the woman. She's soon helped by Inspector Burgess (Thomas Gomez), the cop who originally arrested Scott but now thinks him innocent. Time is running out, and potential witnesses are dying off. Scott's friend Jack (Franchot Tone) arrives and begins helping Carol. Or so she thinks. The audience knows he killed Scott's wife and has been bribing or killing the witnesses. Finally, Carol finds the woman by tracing the weird hat she wore to the show. She and Jack go to his apartment to wait for Burgess, but before he arrives, Carol realizes Jack is the killer. He's about to kill her when Burgess arrives. Jack jumps out the window. Scott is freed and marries Carol.

Review - Phantom Lady

Supposedly a classic of noir. I liked Raines in this, although I haven't been a fan in other things I've seen her in. Tone's killer was just weird, but the overall plot and mood kept my interest.
