Description:Richard Collier (Christopher Reeve) playwright with writers' block, goes to the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island and sees a photo of Elise McKenna (Jane Seymour), and actress who starred in a play at the hotel in 1912. Richard becomes obsessed, reads up about Elise, then talks his old professor who tells him he can travel back in time if he wants to really badly. Richard dresses in an old suit and makes it back. Elise is reluctant to talk to him at first, especially because of the resistance of her manager, Robinson (Christopher Plummer). But they steal away and spend an afternoon boating and walking. Robinson has Richard kidnapped and tied up in a stable, but he gets loose and finds Elise. They spend a night together, but then he finds a penny from 1979 in his suit and unwillingly travels back to his own time where he wastes away and dies. The final scene shows him reuniting with Elise in some vague bright white place. Earlier in the movie, there was a scene where one of Richard's plays was performed in college and an old lady (Elise) came to see it and asked him to come back to her.

Review - Somewhere in Time

Pretty much the same problems with the movie as with the book. Reeves (whom I've never cared for as an actor, even as Superman) was annoying. The whole undying love that ruined both their lives after three hours of talking and a night of sex is just annoying. And if he could go back once, wouldn't a second trip be easier, especially now that he knows it's possible. The one plus of the movie is that Jane Seymour was indeed lovely.
