Description:Ellie May (Ginger Rogers) somehow manages to grow to be a decent young woman in spite of the fact that her family is a mess. Her father is an alcoholic. Her mother is a prostitute, and her grandmother used to be. Ellie May meets Ed (Joel McCrea) and falls in love. They get married and start out happy, but when Ed finds out about her family, he figures she took him for a sucker. Ellie May's mother is shot by her drunken father, and the family runs out of money. Her grandmother convinces Ellie May to take up prostitution, but on her first day, she insists on stopping to see Ed. He pushes her away at first, but then chases after her and brings her home. He takes on the responsibility of her family too.

Too melodramatic for my taste. The mother died and the ending was happy because that's the only way the code would approve. Considered by some as the movie Ginger should have won the Oscar for.
