Description:Upset that he can't provide for his family, ex-soldier Jeffrey Manchester (Channing Tatum) begins robbing McDonald's by breaking in through the roof. He gets caught and sentenced to 45 years in prison. He escapes and contacts a friend who can provide documents to get him out of the country — but the process takes a couple months. While he waits, Jeff hides out in a Toys "R" Us. He watches the employees from his hiding spot and is attracted to Leigh (Kirsten Dunst). She's organizing a toy drive for her church, and he shows up with a bag of toys from the store. He gets pulled into a service and makes friends. Soon, he and Leigh are involved. It takes a little longer before her two daughters warm up to him, but soon they are behaving like a family. When the documents are ready, Jeff has to rob the store of its weekly deposit to pay for it. He's on his way out of town, on Christmas, when Leigh calls to ask him to come for dinner. When he shows up, he's arrested and given another long sentence.

Review - Roofman

The story is based on a real guy who did pretty much what was portrayed in the movie. Tatum did a good job with the role of a charming criminal. It was touching, but also sad because he seemed like a guy who could have been a winner — except for the crime — and because I knew how it had to end.
