Description:New York newspaperman Wally Cook (Fredric March) is disgraced when the sultan he introduces in his articles turns out to be a local shoe shine boy. In an effort to resurrect his reputation, he talks his editor into letting him interview Hazel Flagg (Carole Lombard) a young woman dying of radiation poisoning. Just before Wally meets Hazel, her doctor tells her his initial diagnosis was wrong, and she's fine. But when Wally shows up and offers her a trip to New York, Hazel jumps at the chance — wanting more than anything to get out of her dreary hometown. Thanks to Wally's articles, New York is waiting to greet the brave dying girl with parades and honors. Wally soon comes to love Hazel for her bravery. Because he loves her, he brings in more doctors to see if there's a chance to save her. These doctors soon see that she's fine. They tell Wally's editor, but he insists on going through with the story rather than make the paper look silly. Then the mayor and city big shots find out, but they too agree to keep quiet. It's all resolved by having Hazel write a note that she's going off to die along and then disappears. She and Wally go on a honeymoon on a cruise ship.

Review - Nothing Sacred

I wanted to like it, and I might have if it had been a clever comedy. But instead it was made as slapstick, which made it impossible to take seriously or to care about the characters.
